There is always a tricky balance when using eyeliner. You could either end up looking like a horror movie character or stunningly beautiful with the right product. One of the best ways to avoid looking like an unsightly mess, due to your application of eyeliner, is through the use of retractable eyeliner. Retractable eye pencils look very similar to the regular kind of eyeliner, with the exception of that they do not need to be sharpened and tend to be creamier in formulation which makes them easier to apply. I have recently had the opportunity to use NYX retractable eyeliner. Here is my review of its performance:

The NYX retractable eyeliner range of products is available in 15 different colors. I found the colors to be well pigmented, though brown and black did stand a bit from the rest of the pack. Their texture was very creamy and buttery smooth, while avoiding making a mess. At first, I thought its very bright colors when make me look like a rave fanatic, but once I took a small swipe to my upper lashes, I was pleasantly surprised by the boost it gave to my brown eyes. On top that, they colors stayed put even after a brief session at the gym.

I decided to perform a wear and swipe test on the NYX retractable eyeliner, by trying on the blue color. I was impressed with its performance, which stayed put the whole day without any hustles. On swiping it off, it came off without a hitch (no tugging for me). However, some colors don’t maintain their “composure” as well. Colors like silver and purple did not overtly impress me with the duration performance.

Among the range of NYX retractable eyeliner, I loved the black one the most, which comes in an intense carbon black hue; just perfect for lush looking lashes or Smokey eyes. However, I do recommend that you use an eye primer prior to application, which really helps to boost its performance. Also makes sure to apply the color directly to your eye lashes and not your skin and avoid extending your application past the corner of eyes, for a more appealing look. If you are after a more discreet definition, then avoid applying the inner rim of your bottom lash line, where eyeliner is typically more visible. This method of application is often referred to as tightlining, among the celebrity and model crowd.
